Utopia man accused of killing mother-in-law, her friend over property dispute

Uvalde County sheriff's: Thomas Ray Nelson shot, killed Juana Marcelina Tweedy, Muriel Francell Teed on Thanksgiving Day

UTOPIA, Texas – Utopia resident Thomas Ray Nelson is accused of killing his mother-in-law and her friend on Thanksgiving Day over a property dispute.

The Uvalde Leader News reports Thomas Ray Nelson, 63, was arrested Thursday Afternoon.

Nelson reportedly admitted to shooting and killing 80-year-old Juana Marcelina Tweedy and 79-year old Muriel Francell Teed as the women were sitting in the kitchen table of Tweedy's home .

Nelson and his wife also live on the property and the Uvalde County sheriff believes the shooting stemmed from Tweedy's decision to evict the couple, the Uvalde Leader News reported.

Nelson's wife reported the shooting, but was not there for the incident. Nelson was booked into the Uvalde County Jail and is reportedly being held without bond.
