Pedestrian struck by car in far east San Antonio

San Antonio Police: Driver stopped to render aid, not facing charges after crash on Highway 87

SAN ANTONIO – A pedestrian was hospitalized after he was struck by a car in far east San Antonio late Thursday night.

A man in his 20s was driving westbound on Highway 87 and tried to make a left turn on Lake Meadow after 11 p.m. when he struck the pedestrian who was standing in the left turn lane, San Antonio police said.

The 55-year-old pedestrian was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. 

The driver stopped to render aid and was not expected to face charges. Police said the accident was unavoidable and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing at the time.

There was no word why the man was standing in the turn lane.
