Southside ISD board to discuss job status of superintendent

Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso under contract until 2017

SAN ANTONIO – A special session has been set up Thursday to discuss the job status of Southside ISD Superintendent Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso.

The Southside ISD school board will vote to either fire, place on leave, or keep Dr. Jasso.

The board has the right to fire the superintendent at their discretion, but part of the problem is Dr. Jasso is under contract until 2017.

If the board votes to fire Dr. Jasso, A buyout would be in order and cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"It's very frustrating, it's very frustrating, because is it really about the kids?" said former board member Lisa L. Salazar.

Salazar and another former board member, Richard Quebe, are upset over the possible firing because they say the money is not there for a buyout.

"Our tax base is very low and we don't have the money for that," said Quebe. Salazar and Quebe also do not believe Dr. Jasso deserves to be fired.

"He has been excellent. Our scores are up, our graduation rates are up, our discipline is down," said Quebe.
