Tower of the Americas turns pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

San Antonio landmark to remain pink through October

The Tower of the Americas is going pink this month in support of breast cancer awareness.

The downtown San Antonio landmark was lit in pink from top to bottom and will remain that way for the whole month of October.

The show of support is meant to highlight the importance of early detection for both men and women.

It's estimated that more than 1,000 people in Bexar County will be diagnosed will breast cancer this year.

"I was diagnosed this past year. I found a lump by a breast self-exam and I encourage young people and just anybody in general to do a monthly self-exam you know your body more than the doctors do," said Sarah Pascual, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

This month, the smoke stacks at the Alamo Quarry Market will also shine pink.
