Bexar County's first Affordable Care Act assistance program

Program to run through March

The first ever Affordable Care Act enrollment assistance day is now underway at Biblio Tech, Bexar County's first ever digital library.

A low number of sign-ups  and website troubles prompted the county to begin assisting people in the sign up process. The program will continue until the end of March.

"The big thing that happened was the federal government messed up the website," said County Judge Nelson Wolff.

Counselors will be made available to the assist the public on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12-8pm.

"We're servicing an area down here that's 88% economically disadvantaged.," Wolff said. "100% of the kids are on the free lunch program so we know there's a lot of eligible people out there."

Anybody looking to enroll in the health care marketplace will need to bring their social security card, employment and income verification and the policy numbers for any insurance coverage they may already have.
