Somerset grad killed in one-car accident

SAN ANTONIO – Joe Aguero, 20, was killed early Wednesday morning in a one-car accident on FM 476 near Hartung Road. The 2013 Somerset High School graduate was driving home after an overnight work shift.

"As hard as it is for us, we can take comfort in that we got to talk to him that morning," said his mother Rebecca Aguero on Thursday.

Rebecca said she knew something was wrong after their conversation abruptly ended. She and other family members drove to where they believed Joe was and found emergency vehicles at the scene. He was airlifted to University Hospital but paramedics were not able to revive him.

News of his death spread quickly through the close-knit community of Somerset. Both of Joe's parents work for Somerset Independent School District.

Two fund raising pages have already received several donations.

"He's just a very lovable person," Aguero said. "Ready to give, ready to take care of his friends."

The family is still planning funeral arrangements and are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the community.

"They're just being very generous and very thoughtful. We take comfort in all the words that they say about him. It's just hard not having him here," Aguero said.
