SAN ANTONIO – At a special meeting Tuesday night, the San Antonio Independent School board of trustees voted to begin its search for a recruiting firm that could help draw candidates for the superintendent position.
The move comes after Superintendent Dr. Sylvester Perez's announcement last month that he plans to resign from the district effective April 1, 2015.

However, Tuesday night, Perez agreed to extend that timeline to the end of the 2014-15 school year if the board has not found his replacement before then.
Perez was named SAISD superintendent in June 2013 after serving as interim since March 1, 2012, when he came out of retirement to take that position.
