BCSO hands out gifts to children of inmates

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff's Office was able to give back to the children of inmates Friday, thanks to generous donations.

Hundreds of children and their families lined up at the Laurel Heights United Methodist Church to receive gifts.

The Sheriff's Office said a total of 1,600 children would be getting presents.

They also had opportunity to get their pictures taken with Santa.

"Every child deserves a gift at Christmas. Because it's not the children who committed a crime, it may be their parents. But we also want these children to recognize that sheriff deputies (and) law enforcement are here to help the community," said Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau.

All the toys given out were collected through donations from the community and a partnership with Chrysalis Ministries.
