Driver killed in Loop 1604 crash

SAN ANTONIO – A head-on collision on Loop 1604 resulted in the death of a female driver Tuesday evening.

San Antonio police said the woman's Kia Sportage clipped the outside wall of Loop 1604 between Interstate 10 East and Graytown Road, crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Dodge Durango.

The woman was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. Sgt. Brian Custard said she would have likely survived if she had been wearing a seat belt.

Custard said the female driver of the Durango and her 2-year-old passenger were both strapped in and were taken to North Central Baptist Hospital in good condition.

Custard said investigators are still looking into the crash at this time, but it appears that the driver that survived will not face any charges.
