SAPD: Man claims he was shot after asking for cigarette

Man shot near far West Side park, suspect at-large

SAN ANTONIO – A man was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after he was shot in the shoulder near a far West Side park.

The victim told San Antonio police he was shot at around 1 a.m. in the 8700 block of Grissom Road after he asked the suspect for a cigarette.

He then ran to a nearby Whataburger to call for help and the suspect fled the scene.  

Police have not determined a motive or made an arrest in the case.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in stable condition, police said.
