SAN ANTONIO – An elderly man was killed in an early Wednesday morning crash in Southeast Bexar County, a sheriff's office spokesman said.
The wreck happened just before 4 a.m. on Highway 181 near Loop 1604 near Elmendorf.
Texas Department of Transportation crews were called out to restore power in the area and found a pole snapped.
About 100 yards away, they found a wrecked Lexus and called Bexar County sheriff's deputies to investigate.
The spokesman said deputies weren't sure whether the driver was thrown or got out by himself.
They believe he was speeding when his car left the road, hit the utility pole, and rolled several times before stopping in the brush. They believe he may have suffered a medical episode.
The Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the man's death. His name has not been released.
