New type of public restroom coming to San Antonio

The cost of the new stand-alone restroom is $97,000.

SAN ANTONIO – The City Council approved the purchase of one stand-alone restroom Thursday.

The new type of public restroom will be available in about three months.

District 1 Councilman Robert Trevino says the idea is to have accessible public restrooms throughout downtown.

"After all the discussion of our budget we had just enough to purchase at least one of these (stand-alone public restrooms). Now I'd like to have more of these but we want to make sure that at least one got brought to San Antonio so we could test it out," Trevino said.

According to Trevino, the restrooms are easy to maintain, difficult to damage, and built in a way to let police and the public know when someone's inside.

The cost of the new restroom is $97,000. Trevino says he hopes to have more by next year.
