Family of murdered mother of 6 hopes for arrest

Loved ones raise funeral funds for Margarita Natividad

SAN ANTONIO – As they look to the generosity of others to help them say their final goodbyes, the family of a woman who was shot and killed hope the community will also help lead police to a suspect.

“We were not prepared for this. It’s a lot of pain,” said Letesia Marquez, aunt of Margarita Nativdad, 28.

Marquez gathered with friends and family Sunday afternoon for a BBQ plate sale to raise money for Natividad’s funeral expenses.

Natividad was shot to death Friday morning at an apartment on Medical Drive.

“She was my first daughter. My only daughter. And I don’t know how can I tell the kids they’re not going to have their mom no more,” said Petra Natividad, the victim’s mother.

Natividad was a single mother of six children between the ages of 1 and 9 years old.

“She was a really good person. Really good mother, too,” Marquez said.

San Antonio police named James Edward Striblin, 39, who goes by the name Jay, as a suspect in the shooting death.

Investigators believe Priscilla Danielle Cueva, 30, may be with Striblin and may be in danger.

They are calling her a person of interest in the case.

According to police, Striblin and another man were waiting at an apartment for Cueva and another woman to return from work Friday.

When the women arrived, investigators believe a fight began and Striblin shot Natividad.

“Maybe she don’t make the right decisions all the time, but everybody does that,” Petra Natividad said. “But always she tried to get the best for her kids and especially help her family.”

Any with information about the suspect or person of interest in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
