Motorcyclist killed in crash on Southwest Side

Merced Ortiz, 53, killed in 3600 block of General Hudnell Drive

SAN ANTONIO – A motorcyclist is dead following an early morning crash, San Antonio police said Thursday.

The victim was identified as Merced Ortiz, 53.

The accident occurred just before 3 a.m. in the 3600 block of General Hudnell Drive, found not far from Frio City Road and Quintana Road on the city's Southwest Side.

Police said the motorcyclist hit the guardrail and was thrown off the bike. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bike ended up going over the railing and landing in the southbound lanes as a result of the crash, police said.

Police did not disclose if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. He has not been identified.
