East Side house fire displaces San Antonio family of 13

Arson investigating house fire in 2900 block of Christian Drive

SAN ANTONIO – A family of 13 is receiving assistance after a fire caused serious damage to their East Side home Thursday afternoon.

San Antonio fire spokesman Joe Arrington said crews learned of the house fire around 11:37 a.m. in the 2900 block of Christian Drive, which is not far from Loop 410 and Rigsby Avenue.

When they arrived at the scene, Arrington said fire crews discovered heavy smoke coming from the home and began aggressively attacking the blaze.

Arrington said it took more than 15 units with the San Antonio Fire Department about 20 minutes to put out the fire, which is believed to have either started inside a wall or outside the home.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family, and the fire department's arson unit will further investigate the fire, Arrington said.

While it is unclear how much was destroyed by the fire, Arrington said it caused "quite a bit of damage" to the home.
