Blue Bell issues voluntary recall of all products

Latest recall made amid health concerns of Listeria

SAN ANTONIO – In what is the latest of a series of recalls, Blue Bell Ice Cream announced Monday night a voluntary recall of all of its products. Ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks are all included in the recall.

The recall includes all product currently in stores and from all production facilities, including the company's headquarters in Brenham.

In a statement released Monday evening, Blue Bell said the recall has been issued due to "the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes."

Blue Bell said the decision was made after the Listeria bacteria was found in some Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream half gallons produced on March 17, 2015, and March 27, 2015.

"This means Blue Bell has now had several positive tests for Listeria in different places and plants and as previously reported five patients were treated in Kansas and three in Texas after testing positive for Listeria monocytogenes," the statement read.

The company said it has begun a "test and hold" procedure for all products, from all manufacturing facilities. Blue Bell will test all products and hold them from release to stores until the tests confirm the products' safety.

Blue Bell said its Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, facility will remain closed as the company continues to investigate.

Consumers who have purchased these items are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone with questions is asked to call 1-866-608-3940 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. or visit bluebell.com.
