Juvenile Probation Department, Roy Maas to open drop-in center for child sex-trafficking victims

Facility will be located in Bridge Emergency Shelter building

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department, in partnership with Roy Maas Youth Alternatives, will establish the first official drop-in center for victims of child sex trafficking in Bexar County.

The Governor’s Criminal Justice Division with federal funds awarded the organizations $877,491.

The facility will be at the Roy Maas Youth Alternatives in the Bridge Emergency Shelter. That Bridge facility will move next door to another building.

“Right now, teens who are on the streets do not have a safe place to go. There is no place for them to get a hot shower, to get a meal, call home, to get help,” said Lynne Wilkerson, chief probation officer.

Centro Seguro, which means safe place, is expected to open its doors to young victims in October.

“We will have case managers on site and counselors on site to work with the children,” Wilkerson said.
