If enough Californians get vaccinated, Los Angeles movie theaters could be in the clear to reopen at a limited capacity as early as Saturday, according to Gov. As of Wednesday, Los Angeles County had just 6.9 new cases per 100,000 residents and Newsom said California should hit the vaccine milestone on Friday. "Southern California, L.A., will be a big beneficiary of this new metric," Newsom said during a his daily press conference Wednesday. Lanier coach Joseph Martinez has taken a look around District 27-5A during the first half of the season and seen the need for change. The Voks (10-7, 6-3) have used a couple of district games — including a 58-38 win over Burbank Jan. 12 at Alamo Convocation Center — to implement some new defensive wrinkles. The win over Burbank (1-14, 1-8) and a follow-up victory over Sam Houston (5-8, 5-3) Jan. 15 lifted the Voks into third place. Against Burbank, Lanier seized control by outscoring the Bulldogs 18-4 in the third quarter. Unemployment fell from 8.4% in August, but that mainly reflected a decline in the number of people seeking work, rather than a surge in hiring. The U.S. gained nearly 7 million jobs from Trump's 2017 inauguration until the pandemic struck. Yet President Barack Obama was re-elected in 2012 even with unemployment at 7.8% on the eve of the election. In August, the latest data available, unemployment was 10.3% in Pennsylvania and 8.7% in Michigan, both above the national rate that month. Walmart is combining its teams of buyers for Walmart.com and the company's stores as the big-box retailer aims to turn e-commerce into a profitable business, according to a company memo sent Tuesday. Lore and Furner will stay in their roles and merchandising teams will report to both of them, according to the company memo. 'Dark Shadows,' 'Cagney & Lacey' actor John Karlen dies
BURBANK, Calif. – Emmy-winning character actor John Karlen, known for his roles on the television series “Dark Shadows” and “Cagney & Lacey,” has died. Karlen played conman and scoundrel Willie Loomis, and later several other roles, on “Dark Shadows,” the cult favorite horror soap that aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. He played Harvey Lacey, husband to Tyne Daly's Mary Beth Lacey, on the acclaimed CBS police drama “Cagney & Lacey” from 1982 to 1988. Karlen won an Emmy as best supporting actor in a drama for the role in 1986. His final major role was a reprise of his Harvey Lacey character for the 1996 television movie, “Cagney & Lacey: True Convictions.”Karlen's survivors include his son, Adam.

SAISD addresses air conditioning issues plaguing campuses during first week of school
SAN ANTONIO - The superintendent of the San Antonio Independent School District held a press conference Wednesday to give an update on air conditioning issues at some of the district's campuses. Sam Houston, Burbank, Fox Tech and nearly 40 others have all had air conditioning outages this week. Air conditioning problems at Sam Houston and Burbank high schools were fixed Tuesday, but the outage persists at Fox Tech. Students from Fox Tech and the Advanced Learning Academy, which shares the Fox Tech campus, were bused to San Antonio College on Tuesday and Wednesday while crews performed repairs. They will also have class at SAC on Thursday but are expected to be back on the Fox Tech campus by Friday.
