Harlandale ISD has identified the 14-year-old male found shot at a South Side intersection Sunday evening as Angel Jerry Yanez. The teen, who was a student at Harlandale High School, later died at the hospital. When police arrived, they found the teenager in the street by Harlandale High School, near the intersection of Gerald and Tupper avenues. Harlandale High shuts down football for 3 weeks; Veterans Memorial, Southside games canceled
SAN ANTONIO – Harlandale High School has shutdown both of its varsity and junior varsity football teams for the next three weeks following a positive coronavirus test, Harlandale Independent School District officials announced Thursday. Additionally, football practices at Harlandale High School cannot resume until Nov. 20. Junior varsity games will be allowed to continue on Nov. 26, and varsity games will resume on Nov. 27, according to the district’s announcement. Veterans Memorial has also been forced to cancel its next two games. The first game was scheduled for Friday night against Buda Johnson in Buda, and the other was scheduled for next Thursday against Dripping Springs.

College Graduates 2020: Jeffrey Martínez
Jeffrey Martínez said his dream began at a very young age and was accomplished in the fall of 2013, however, Martínez said something was still missing. “Literally, I graduated college on a Saturday, and I started teaching (at Harlandale High School) that Tuesday right after,” Martínez said. Martínez is a high school math teacher. “I sponsored the class of 2016 at Harlandale,” Martínez said. “Only one other person has received their Masters, and she was also a math teacher and a high school counselor.

SAN ANTONIO – A 15-year-old has been arrested on murder charges in connection with a man who was found dead under a bridge near Harlandale High School on Tuesday. Police told KSAT the man was found dead around 4:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Rosebud Lane. SAPD report says the man found dead under bridge was murderedIt remains unclear if the victim and the teen knew each other, or if the teen is a student at the high school. A previous report from San Antonio Police said a man and woman were taken in for questioning Tuesday when the body was discovered. The teen has been taken to the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center, a spokesperson with San Antonio Police Department confirmed to KSAT.

Harlandale ISD Town Hall Meeting Scheduled Following Texas Education Agency Report
click to enlarge Google MapsFollowing a recent Texas Education Agency report that found the district in trouble, Harlandale Independent School District will hold a town hall to encourage community feedback.A town hall meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on August 1 at Harlandale High School to discuss a response to the TEA accreditation report, so the board can hear from the public on how to proceed. The upcoming meeting comes after a Monday meeting about how it will fill the vacant seat left by former school board trustee David Abundis, who resigned from the position last week.The board also says it plans to meet with the TEA commissioner in Austin on August 7. According to a KSAT 12 report , an investigation of the district by the Texas Education Agency started in 2017 and has focused on how it handles contracts, as well as allegations of nepotism and an alleged violation of the Open Meetings Act.The school board voted Monday to abide by the TEA's plan to suspend superintendent Rey Madrigal indefinitely with pay, as he has already been given a notice of termination. They also voted to support current interim superintendent Samantha Gallegos in her duties as well.Plans to place a conservator to oversee the district have already been made by the TEA, as well as lowering the district's accreditation status. If the district doesn't address the problems, it could be placed on probation or lose accreditation.sacurrent.com
