Bexar County Commissioners have already committed $15 million toward the project, and the San Antonio City Council will vote Thursday on providing $17 million in tax rebates.
Workers surprised by shooting scene in Northwest Side restaurant parking lot
SAN ANTONIO, Texas โ Any hope for a typical Monday morning vanished the minute Alma Martinez showed up at the Northwest side restaurant where she works. She found San Antonio police cars and crime scene tape block off an area of the parking lot at Tommyโs restaurant on Wurzbach Road near Gardendale. โI asked him what was going on and thatโs when he told me that there had been shots.โBullets hit the side of the building that houses Tommy's restaurant. The two victims, one shot in the leg and the other shot in the chest, showed up at local hospitals. So itโs was, kind of, scary.โPolice spent a lot of time there, as well, searching for evidence related to the shooting.

SAN ANTONIO โ Community leaders stood united Thursday in a press conference outside the Bexar County Courthouse to condemn racist graffiti found on the windows of a Northwest Side ramen shop. On Sunday, Noodle Tree owner Mike Nguyen went to the ramen shop to find racist graffiti that read, โno masks,โ โramen noodle flu,โ and other derogatory remarks. AdโItโs important that the people of San Antonio know that this is not who we are,โ Gonzales said. Others who spoke up for the Asian community in San Antonio included San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Police Chief William McManus, and Councilman Manny Pelaez. The support was appreciated by members of the Asian community, like Christina Lew, the president of the San Antonio chapter for the Chinese American Citizens Alliance.
Car went airborne before landing, crashing on Interstate 10, police say
SAN ANTONIO โ UPDATE: The Bexar County Medical Examinerโs Office has identified the men killed in the crash as 24-year-old Jovan Cruz and 25-year-old Kahlid Valencia. (Original Story)San Antonio police say a car involved in a deadly overnight crash went airborne before it landed, then rolled several times along Interstate 10 on the cityโs Northwest side. When it came to a stop near Hausman Road, police say they found two men in their mid-20s dead inside the vehicle. โAt this point, speed was the underlying factor and a huge contributor to this crash,โ said Officer Cory Schuler, a public information officer for SAPD. As of mid-morning, the Bexar County Medical Examinerโs office was still working to obtain a positive identification of the two men.
Multiple problems plague San Antonio fire crews, keep them running 36 hours straight
SAN ANTONIO โ An overnight fire in a duplex on the cityโs Northwest side was only the latest call in a string of non-stop action for one set of San Antonio firefighters. When they got the call after 2 a.m. Thursday, they already had been running for about 36 hours straight on everything from fires to flooding caused by broken pipes. Fire crews, working for 36 hours straight, handled a number of house fires that started in a fireplace. โThere (have) been a lot of these fires,โ Philipp said. While there are widespread water outages in the city, firefighters were able to tap into a working fire hydrant on that street.
1 man wounded in shootout outside Northwest Side sports bar
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio police say a man who was wounded in a shootout outside a Northwest side bar early Thursday morning may not exactly be a victim. They found the man who was suffering from two gunshot wounds in his back. However, a bar patron told KSAT 12 he noticed bouncers escorting a man out of the bar shortly before the gunfire erupted. He said he and everyone else ran toward the back of the bar for safety. At least one other car in the parking lot also appeared to have been hit by the gunfire.
San Antonio man recounts rescuing woman from fire in homeless camp
SAN ANTONIO โ A former airman and combat veteran said his military training came in handy when he stumbled upon a woman who had been burned in a fire at a homeless camp on the Northwest side of San Antonio. โThatโs when I saw the woman standing here.โThe fire broke out within an area of heavy brush in what appeared to be a homeless camp. (KSAT 12 News)The woman apparently had been living in the area of thick brush which, for some reason, went up in flames. Charred personal items are scattered among the ashes of what used to be a homeless camp. (KSAT 12 News)He said at the time he didnโt think.
