UT-Austin wonโt require SAT or ACT scores for 2022 applications due testing limitations because of COVID-19
The University of Texas at Austin is suspending the SAT and ACT test score requirement for fall 2022 applicants, citing continued limited access to testing opportunities for students due the COVID-19 pandemic. AdLast year, multiple Texas universities temporarily scrapped the testing requirement for the 2021 applicants, including Texas A&M University, Baylor University, Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University. In Austin, St. Edward's University had been planning to permanently waive ACT and SAT requirements for months, Dean of Admissions Drew Nichols told The Texas Tribune last spring. Last year, the University of California system announced its campuses would begin phasing out the ACT and SAT immediately. With Frisco Bowl canceled, UTSA will play in First Responder Bowl
Although COVID-19 sidelined Southern Methodist University, leading to the cancellation of the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl, UTSA will still get to appear in a bowl game. The Roadrunners were supposed to play the Mustangs at Toyota Stadium in Frisco on Dec. 19, marking UTSAโs second bowl game in its 10-year history. SMU pulled out of the bowl, however, because contact tracing revealed COVID-19 exposure concerns among its football team. Now, UTSA accepted a bid in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl, scheduled for Dec. 26 at 3:30 p.m. in Dallas, Texas. The Roadrunners last appeared in a bowl game in 2016, when they lost to the New Mexico Lobos 23-20.
Analysis: College football is back โ as both a spectacular and a science experiment
Texasโ college football players wonโt be the only people with butterflies in their stomachs this weekend. SMU played last Saturday against Texas State University, but the TCU-SMU game would have been the first involving a Big 12 school. This weekend, two Texas schools in that conference will take the field: the University of Texas at Austin and Texas Tech University. A third was supposed to play, but Baylor University postponed its weekend game after several Louisiana Tech players tested positive.
