Powerful cold front expected to arrive this weekend

Front expected to arrive Sunday at midnight

SAN ANTONIO – When it comes to the weather, this weekend will feature two very different days.

Saturday will begin with patchy fog and cloud cover, but sun is projected to break out by the afternoon.  With added sun and a southwesterly wind, temperatures are expected to climb near record levels. Highs in the upper 70s and low 80s will be common around the area.

That all changes Sunday night when a powerful cold front quickly pushes through the area. The front is expected to arrive in San Antonio around midnight. Once that happens, winds will become gusty and temperatures will fall off quickly.

During the day on Sunday, look for wind gusts up to 40 mph and temperatures barely reaching 40 degrees. Wind chills in the 20s and 30s will make it feel colder.

By Sunday night and into Monday morning, a widespread freeze will be underway, as lows in San Antonio may dip into the mid-20s.

Temperatures will slowly warm by the end of next week.
