Major League Baseball coming to San Antonio

Texas Rangers will play San Diego Padres March 29, 30 at Alamodome

The 2013 Major League Baseball season is just a few months away and baseball fans in san Antonio are getting closer to witnessing history.

On Wednesday, HEB announced they have teamed up with Hall of Fame Pitcher Nolan Ryan and his Texas Rangers for the Big League Weekend on March 29 and 30 in the Alamodome.

"They are stepping up to be our lead sponsor in Big League Weekend ,and I think (the game is) going to be different in the Alamodome," Ryan said.

Several of the players expressed excitement about trying something new.

"I have never been to the Alamodome -- never actually seen it -- so (I'm) definitely excited to be a part of that," said Rangers pitcher Derek Holland.

"This is such a cool idea," said Rangers infielder Brandon Snyder. "Everybody is on board with it and we're really excited."

Playing in the 'dome is unusual -- about as unusual as doing interviews in the produce section of the HEB where the announcement was made.

"This has to be the weirdest place I have done (an interview)," Snyder said.

The media day's location did allow for some quirky answers from players, as well.

"I am a banana guy," Snyder said. "In Spring Training, you get a lot of cramps. I am a banana-and-peanut-butter-sandwich-guy," Snyder said.
