Police working to determine why teen climbed tower

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A New Braunfels High School student is safe after climbing on top of some football stadium lights Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters and police worked for nearly six hours at Unicorn Stadium to bring down the 16-year-old male, who climbed the light tower around 2:30 p.m.

Finally, at about 8:20 p.m. they used a ladder truck and brought then teen down.

School officials have not released the student's name and did not say why the student climbed the tower.

The student was treated for heat exhaustion and sunburn, officials said. School will resume Thursday as usual.
