Storms cause ceilings to partially collapse

Apartment residents evacuated after roof damage

Monday afternoon's strong storms forced some residents to evacuate their apartments on the Northeast Side because of damage to the ceilings.

A total of eight units at the Terrace Apartment Homes in the 11300 block of Roszell Street were damaged when rain water poured in from the roof.

San Antonio Fire Department officials said contractors were in the process of installing a new roof when the storm hit.

The water caused parts of the ceilings to collapse in several rooms and left residents with soggy furniture and clothes.

"I come in the house and I see the roof buckling, and the maintenance man is like, that's from the collapse, so I got my kids out," said resident Renisha Childs. "My kids had to stand outside in the rain while they're trying to figure out what to do next."

The owner of the apartment complex was assisting the affected families to find temporary housing until the damage is repaired. Fire department officials say no injuries were reported.
