Mexican citizen arrested in Laredo after $1.1M drug seizure

A 30-year-old Mexican citizen was arrested in Laredo Tuesday after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found $1.1 million worth of drugs in the man's vehicle.

When the man arrived in his 1995 Ford Econoline van to the Lincoln-Juarez bridge, where CBP officers were working, the man and his vehicle were referred for a second examination. During that exam, officers found 13 bundles containing a total of nearly 33 pounds of alleged meth and 51 packages containing a total of 158 pounds of alleged marijuana hidden inside the vehicle.

"Our officers employed an effective combination of inspections experience and technology to seize a combination load of narcotics," said Jose Uribe, Laredo's acting CBP port director. "Seizures like these reinforce the border security aspect of our mission and keeping our communities safe from the scourge of street-level narcotics."

The vehicle was seized and the man was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
