Police: Violent predator arrested near San Antonio

Ray Garcia Jr., 22, arrested in Marion

A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on arrest warrants for charges involving injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and possession of a controlled substance.

An investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force began in locating Ray Garcia Jr. on May 2 after the bonds he was released from jail on were revoked and increased.

Officials determined Garcia was hiding at a residence in the 300 block of Carranza Lane. After conducting surveillance, task officers entered the residence, made contact with Garcia and took him into custody without incident.

Officials said Garcia was arrested in February for allegedly being in possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested again in April after he was allegedly involved in brutally assaulting a child under the age of 6, causing life-threatening injuries.

Arrest warrants were issued after Garcia bonded out of jail to revoke the bond in the possession case and to increase the bond amount in the injury to a child case.

"It is sad when an innocent child is injured at the hands of a violent predator, especially at the hands of someone they trust," said Robert R. Almonte, U.S. marshal for the Western District of Texas. "My sincere appreciation goes out to our task force officers who arrested Garcia and potentially prevented another child from being seriously injured."

Garcia is being held at the Bexar County Jail to face pending charges.
