SAN ANTONIO – The family of 28-year-old Roxanne Sanchez held a fundraiser Sunday to help pay for funeral costs after she was shot and killed Christmas Day.
Volunteers prepared and sold about 200 barbecue plates to raise money.
Police said Roxanne Sanchez's boyfriend, 31-year-old Benjamin Poehlman, killed her inside their home on First View Street.
Sanchez's mother, Elizabeth Rodriguez, said the family is grateful for the support of they have received from friends and the community.
"It's beautiful that all these people are here to support my daughter, and support us (and) her children. It's just (a) wonderful feeling for me right now. I'm sad and emotional, I always hold that in my heart, but it's good to know these (people) are here with me and my kids," said Rodriguez.
The family said they may have another fundraising event.
