Man charged with 2 murders draws police interest in third

Johnny Joe Avalos person of interest in death of Genevieve Ramirez

SAN ANTONIO – Johnny Joe Avalos, 28, is charged with murder in the deaths of two women and is now a person of interest in a third death, police said.

San Antonio police said Genevieve Ramirez was found unconscious April 4 in a grassy alleyway in the 100 block of Avondale Avenue.

Ramirez was being treated at an area hospital but has died from her injuries. Avalos is now a person of interest in her death.

On Friday, Avalos was charged with murder in the death of Celia Lopez, 29. She was found dead April 15 in the 4400 block of South Presa. She had suffered trauma to her head and face.

Prior to Friday's charges, Avalos was already in jail, charged with the murder of Natalie Chavez, 15. The teenager was found dead under a West Side bridge on Dec. 18.

Avalos was arrested April 21 on a charge of sexual assault of a child based on DNA evidence found on Chavez's body.
