More than 2.5 million Texans expected on roadways this weekend

AAA urges precaution before hitting the road

SAN ANTONIO – Starting Wednesday night, drivers can expect to see more cars on the road.

Of the 3.1 million Texans expected to travel this holiday weekend, 2.6 million will be traveling by car, according to AAA.

AAA reminds motorists to allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, and make sure your car is ready to hit the road.

AAA expects to rescue 360,000 motorists on the side of the roadway across the country this weekend alone. The main reason: dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts.

"Make sure to inspect those tires, make sure to inspect those batteries to make sure they're in good working order,"said Doug Shupe, with AAA Texas.

Another reason so many motorists are traveling this weekend? Most drivers will pay the lowest Independence Day gas prices in five years.
