West Side man accused of shaking, injuring 6-month-old son

Affidavit: Baby boy suffered ‘serious brain injury'

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Juan Rodriguez-Lira, 21, has admitted to violently shaking his six-month-old son during a moment of frustration, leaving the baby with a serious brain injury, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Rodriguez-Lira was arrested after 10 p.m. Sunday on a charge of injury to a child.

The affidavit stated that the baby’s mother called 911 last Thursday after being alerted that he was injured. It stated that Rodriguez-Lira later told police that he was watching his child inside their West Side home while his son’s mother took a shower. He told them he became frustrated when the baby became fussy.

After shaking the baby, Rodriguez-Lira said he noticed his son started to vomit, then became unresponsive, the affidavit stated.

The baby was rushed to University Hospital where doctors found he had suffered bleeding in his brain and hemorrhaging in both eyes, the affidavit stated. He was in critical condition at that time.
