Family dog becomes unlikely hero in attempted abduction, family says

PASEDENA, Texas – A family's small Beagle mix became an unlikely hero over the weekend after he thwarted the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl.

According to her family, the girl was taking the 2-year-old dog named "Ray" for a walk on Sunday when she was approached by a man.

"He grabbed her by the arm and said, 'Come on,'" Bianca Hernandez, the victim's sister, told KPRC, KSAT's sister station in Houston.

The 11-year-old resisted her would-be abductor, but was overpowered. That's when Ray stepped in and bit the girl's attacker.

"He bit the man's left leg, she then ran home," Hernandez said Monday.

Ray and his middle-school-aged companion were able to escape the would-be abductor unharmed. Surveillance video at the complex where the attempted abduction happened captured the man's license plate number. That video was shared with KPRC, but police asked that the TV station not reveal the man's identity as they investigate.

Family said the 11-year-old was visiting from the Midland area, where she is a sixth-grade student.
