Jose Manuel Romero-Alvarado admits to road rage shooting, police say

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have identified the suspect who they say fired several shots at a man during a road rage incident on Interstate 35 Wednesday afternoon.

Jose Manuel Romero-Alvarado was tracked down and pulled over by responding officers. He admitted to being involved in Wednesday's shooting, according to San Antonio police.

Before being transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his shoulder and other injuries, the victim told the police he had been traveling northbound on I-35 near AT&T Center Parkway around 4:39 p.m. when someone fired several shots at him.

The victim, a 51-year-old man, said he was struck by gunfire and three windows on the van were shot out.

While the man pulled over to call the police, a witness saw the shooting and followed the suspect, later identified as Romero-Alvarado.

The witness was able to communicate with a dispatcher over the phone and direct officers to Romero-Alvarado's location.

Police said officers spotted Romero-Alvarado's vehicle just south of Toepperwein Road, where they took him into custody.

As of Thursday morning, Romero-Alvarado remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Romero-Alvarado's bail was set at $80,000.

Police said the victim is still at the SAMMC recovering from the non-life-threatening injury.
