Residents surprised by meth drug ring bust involving students in Devine

3 people arrested so far

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas – In the small city of Devine, Medina County Sheriff's Office investigators said they've uncovered a big problem, an apparent methamphetamine drug ring supplying students with drugs.

"You don't realize what's going on so close" said Kebrina Martinez, a former Devine High School student. "I guess it's something that you don't really pay attention to unless it's brought up."

Mary Corona and Don Sigler were the latest suspects to be arrested Thursday. The two allegedly supplied meth to Paul Juarez, who was arrested Monday.

Juarez is accused of selling the drugs to students.

Coaches at Devine High on Friday said they had no comment on the situation. Meanwhile, some students on the football team responded differently, with one student saying he expects people to experiment and another saying it’s not anything newsworthy.

"If you were in athletics and you got caught drinking or anything, you would get in trouble, so it's kind of surprising to hear them say that," Martinez said.

Redemption Baptist Church associate Pastor Billy Morse said several Devine High School students are a part of his congregation.

"For them to be leading children in such a wrong direction, a bad direction, it's tearing my heart out. I’m praying for them. Of course, I’m glad they're caught. I pray they turn their life around," he said,

The Devine Independent School District has not confirmed that its students were involved, citing privacy laws, but the superintendent said the district is following the student code of conduct.
