BGC Preview 2018: Reagan vs Steele

The big game in our Big Game Coverage this Friday night in Week 2 of the high school football season will feature two teams in 12’s Top 12 — the Reagan Rattlers and the Steele Knights.

The Rattlers have moved up to No. 3 overall after a narrow 24-22 victory over the Brennan Bears last Saturday.

The Bears closed the gap late in the game with a last minute touchdown and attempted to tie the game with a two-point conversion that failed.

“Steele is a very good team,” said Ben Culhane, a senior linebacker for Reagan. “We are going to have to be sharp in all of our assignments.”

The Steele Knights are coming off a 21-14 season opening loss to the O’Connor Panthers in a rematch of their Week 3 42-30 loss to the Panthers last year.

As a result, O’Connor moved up to No. 2 in 12’s Top 12 and Steele dropped to No. 7.

Now, they get another tough test in Week 2.

“I’ve seen them on film. “They are good. They execute well,” said Christian Baldelomar senior defensive lineman for Steele.

Remember, Steele got off to a rough start last year at 1-4 before rebounding to win their next 8 of 9 to make it all the way to the state quarterfinals in Division II.  Now, we will see how they match up against the Rattlers when Steele and Reagan meet at Heroes Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
