Research shows Geekdom pumps nearly $70 million into San Antonio economy

Tech company founded 5 years ago

SAN ANTONIO – In the five years since its inception, Geekdom has pumped millions of dollars into the San Antonio economy, newly released research showed.

The tech startup released the information during the company’s “State of the Ecosystem” Monday.

“Over the last five years, Geekdom has created 658 local jobs from companies born out of Geekdom," Lorenzo Gomez said.

With those numbers, the company is staying true to its mission to "provide an environment where we empower and inspire innovators in order to transform our world for the better."

As CEO, Gomez knew the potential was there, but even he was surprised by the numbers.

If compiled as a single company, Geekdom would be the 17th largest employer in the Alamo City.

“There has been $68.8 million in capital raised by the community's members,” Gomez said.

Co-founder Nick Longo and Gomez are now trying to draw upon the entrepreneurs yet to come: kids.

"We want the next wave of workers to come from these boot camps or come from CAST Tech, or go on to do Ph.D. work,” Gomez said. “We want them to have as many options as possible.”

The city’s newest school, CAST Tech at Fox Tech, opens next fall. Enrollment begins in August.

It is a future that has Gomez beaming. “That's what's so exciting about it," he said.
