Judge orders replacement of clerks, threatens legal action against district clerk if not done by Monday
SAN ANTONIO โ On Thursday, 399th District Court Judge Frank Castro issued an order noting that deputy district clerks assigned to district courts serve at the pleasure of the judges. The order concluded by threatening to hold Bexar County District Clerk Mary Angie Garcia in contempt of court is she did not replace two clerks assigned to his court by Monday. Castro had requested the transfer earlier, according to Garcia. We would do what we had to do,โ Garcia said. โWeโre just trying to make it a smooth operational office,โ Garcia said.
Nueces County order banning vehicles on Corpus Christi, Port A beaches expires, curfew remains
SAN ANTONIO โ Beaches in Nueces County have reopened to vehicles as an order put in place to help stunt the spread of COVID-19 has expired. Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales said Friday that the order, which closed vehicle access points at beaches within the county, will end on Monday, according to multiple reports. The newspaper reported that the modified order will restrict access to areas of beaches damaged by Hurricane Hanna. The order was put in place in July as the county asked tourists to stay home for the sake of social distancing. He said enforcing the order โdepleted all of our overtime budgetsโ in providing 24-hour policing.
Austin is the first major city in Texas to extend its stay-at-home order beyond May 1
AUSTIN โ Residents in Austin and Travis counties will remain under the โStay Home-Work Safeโ order until 11:59 p.m. on May 8, KXAN reports. The order which was expected to be lifted on April 14 was extended by county officials on Monday. โThe next three weeks are going to be critical for us,โ Austin Public Health Interim Health Authority Dr. Mark Escott said, according to KXAN. โWhat weโre trying to do is buy time. Buy time for more PPE, buy time for more testing capabilities โฆ and to ultimately buy time for two of the most critical components of this, effective treatment and vaccinations.โCounties in San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston are currently under stay-at-home orders through April 30.
Hays County issues โstay at home, work safeโ order
SAN MARCOS, Texas โ Starting Thursday night, people in Hays County will be under a โstay at home, work safeโ order, the city of San Marcos said Wednesday. The order for residents goes into effect at 11 p.m. Thursday and remains in effect until 4 a.m. April 10. โIssued on March 25 by Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra, the order mandates that all individuals currently living within Hays County remain at home unless performing essential functions, such as certain necessary jobs and essential government functions," a statement from the city reads. Health care businesses, grocery stores, hardware stores, news media, gas stations, restaurants offering to-go and/or food delivery, and many other essential businesses will not have to close. People providing electrical, plumbing and other essential services can continue to work, as can those who work from home.
