AUSTIN - Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, first lady Cecilia Abbott and their daughter, Audrey, joined volunteers at Meals on Wheels Central Texas to help deliver Thanksgiving meals to Austin residents.
The governor's office said Greg Abbott and Cecilia Abbott greeted and thanked volunteers for giving back before delivering meals. They also encouraged all Texans to volunteer in their communities throughout the holiday season.
"We're all blessed as Texans, and I think we all have the opportunity and responsibility to give back to those who are not able to leave their homes on Thanksgiving,” Gov. Abbott said. "This is a way we can share the blessings we have with our fellow Texans."
Meals on Wheels Central Texas is one of the largest meal-delivery organizations in the state. The governor's office said the organization distributes 3,000 meals each business day to home-bound older adults and people with disabilities.
"I want to thank the volunteers for coming out on a holiday to help serve others, and that’s what being a Texan is all about," Gov. Abbott said.
