Suspect wanted in theft from Schoffer Brothers Motorcycles

Crime Stoppers offers $500 reward

Working with SAPD Crime Stoppers, a local motorcycle shop owner hopes a reward up to $500 can help recover a stolen sport bike and catch the thief who stole it from his store lot.

Andy Schoffer has been in business for 38 years at Schoffer Brothers Motorcycles in the 3100 block of Fredericksburg Road.

Around 6 p.m. on Sept. 16, a male customer came into the store asking about buying a muffler.

A surveillance camera inside the shop shows the man wearing shorts and a red T-shirt.

But the man later turned his attention to a 1992 GSX-R1100 parked outside.

"I stood in front of him the whole time until a few minutes later he got a chance to sit on it again, put it in gear, and peeled out," Schoffer recalled.

The bike was parked just out of view of the surveillance camera outside and it was positioned near a crosswalk, giving the thief easy access to the street.

"I yelled at him first of all 'Hey!' real loud," Schoffer said. "Then I whistled. I've got a 110-decibel whistle so everybody in the neighborhood is looking, but the guy just drove south on Fredericksburg Road."

Not only has Schoffer taken a financial hit from the theft, but the loss is a sentimental one as well. The bike belonged to his son and he had just begun trying to sell it.

"I'm hoping someone will recognize him, if not his friend," Schoffer said.
