2 San Antonio pedestrians fatally struck in separate accidents

1 victim identified as 79-year-old Mary Ferguson, name of other victim not released

Two pedestrians died in separate accidents across San Antonio.

The first accident involved an elderly woman who was struck and killed by an SUV on the Northeast Side Thursday evening.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as 79-year-old Mary Ferguson.  

Police said Ferguson was walking west on Nacogdoches Road and Thousand Oaks when she was fatally struck around 7:30 p.m.

The driver stayed at the accident scene to render aid. He told police she was crossing the street and did not see her. The driver was not expected to face charges, police said.

Frio City Road fatal accident

The second fatal pedestrian accident occurred around 1 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Frio City Road.

According to San Antonio police, a female driver in her 60s struck a man who may have been lying down on the road. The driver said she saw the victim too late and could not avoid the crash.

The victim became stuck underneath the car and had to be pulled out by San Antonio firefighters. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

No charges were expected to be filed against the driver. She was treated at the scene for chest pains.
