Canyon HS student makes first court appearance

Teen suspect charged in death of fellow student Logan Davidson

The 15-year-old accused of aggravated assault in the death of another Canyon High School student, as in court Friday for a detention hearing.

However, the outcome of whether he would be released for now to his parents was not made public.

The boy has been in the Guadalupe County juvenile facility since the incident Nov. 13.

The detention hearing itself in County Court at Law No. 2 was closed.

Only the boy's parents, their attorney and the prosecution were allowed in the courtroom.

San Antonio attorney Joel Perez said since it was a closed hearing, he could not confirm whether his young client will stay in detention.

But the teen's mother was seen crying outside the courtroom.

Supporters, such as the soccer players who played at his side, looked visibly disappointed, as did local members of LULAC, the civil rights organization, who said they came to support the family.

Comal County District Attorney Jennifer Tharp is considering whether to upgrade the charges.

The parents of 15-year-old Logan Davidson, who died after the alleged assault, were not in the courtroom.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was head trauma.

New Braunfels Police have said Davidson hit his head against the wall outside their classroom after being punched twice by the other boy.

Police also said they've not been able to verify whether bullying was involved, as described on social media since the incident.
