Cow hit by vehicle on Northeast Side

Animal suffers broken legs, put down by police

A cow was hit by a vehicle Sunday morning after getting loose on a stretch of Loop 1604.

The cow was hit at Loop 1604 and Nacogdoches Road across the highway from Rolling Oaks Mall.

The impact of the collision broke the cow's front legs. Police scrambled to find someone to help the animal, but after about 30 minutes they decided to put the animal down to end its suffering.

State game wardens assisted in removing the animal's body from the road.

Police on scene said it is extremely unusual to see a cow hit by a car in a high-traffic area.

They do not know where the cow came from because there is no ranching or farming property in the area.
