SAPD: Teen refuses to stop, crashes car into house

Couple inside house at Churing, Prescott narrowly escape injury

A couple sitting inside their West San Antonio living room narrowly escaped injury when a car crashed into it Monday evening.

"I was sitting on the couch watching TV (around 8 p.m.), and the next thing I know the house is full of smoke, dust, my wife's screaming and an engine just screaming in the house," said homeowner Steve Brister.

Brister had to climb over the debris to get outside where he could see even more destruction.

Now, home repairs are on the couple's to-do list, and that's the last thing they say they want to worry about.

"Her brother passed away this week earlier, so she's upset about that," Brister said.

San Antonio police tried to pull over the 16-year-old driver who caused the crash before 8 p.m., but he refused to stop. Instead, he went around a corner and crashed into another car before slamming into the house.

Someone in the other car had neck and back pain, and had to be taken to an area hospital.

But the driver of the red BMW left sticking out of Brister's house didn't stick around, police said.

"I guess they had to climb out through the backseat. One of them gave up right there, but two of them kept on running," Brister said.

Police arrested the 16-year-old driver for evading arrest in the car and on foot, and for failure to stop and give information.

One passenger, 19-year-old Travon Grady, was also arrested for evading arrest.
