Driver killed in crash with cement slab

SAPD: Mark Martinez, 39, possibly speeding on I-10 access road near Callaghan

A driver who was reportedly speeding died when he crashed into a slab of concrete on the Northwest Side late Tuesday night.

The driver was identified by the medical examiner as 39-year-old Mark Martinez.

Several witnesses told San Antonio police Martinez was speeding just before midnight in a pickup truck moments before he lost control of the vehicle on the Interstate 10 access road near Callaghan Road.

SAPD investigators said Martinez was attempting to exit when he lost control, went down a grassy median and slammed into a cement slab with a Transguide control box.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
