SAWS issues warning on phone, door-to-door scam

Scammers claim to be with SAWS to gain access to homes

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Water System has issued a warning to its customers on a possible scam.

The utility company said it has received reports of customers getting phone calls and door-to-door inquiries from people alleging to be with SAWS.

SAWS said the scammers have tried to get money from customers or access their homes.

The company issued the following warnings:

If you are being contacted by phone, the call should display as being from the San Antonio Water System. Phone call collection is a last measure to avoid water cut off.

If someone claiming to be a SAWS employee comes to your door, check their ID. They should be wearing a badge with the SAWS logo on it.

Most field employees wear blue-collared shirts or T-shirts with the SAWS logo and never collect money in the field. SAWS vehicles are white with a company logo on the door.

If you have any question or concerns, contact SAWS at 704-SAWS, or if you feel you may be in danger, call 911.
