Ex-employee accused of robbing pizza chain

John Paul Rodriguez, 20, had help from girlfriend, police say

SAN ANTONIO – John Paul Rodriguez, 20, is accused of robbing a local pizza restaurant where he had been an employee at one time.

San Antonio police believe he had help in committing the crime from his girlfriend who was a current employee of the business, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The affidavit said that Rodriguez walked into a Little Caesar's Pizza on the night of Feb. 9 after the business had closed. It said that his girlfriend unlocked the door allowing him to enter.

Police said once he was inside Rodriguez pointed a handgun at the manager then took money from the cash registers and safe.

The affidavit said that his girlfriend's cash register contained a large amount of cash because she purposely had not made deposits throughout the night as scheduled.

On March 27, investigators showed the manager a photo lineup and he identified Rodriguez as the suspect, the affidavit said. The manager told police he not only knew Rodriguez as a former employee but also as an ex-friend of his.

Rodriguez was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated robbery.
