Man sentenced to 30 years in prison for murdering 17-year-old girl

Convicted killer says bullet not meant for victim

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of killing a 17-year-old girl when a bullet meant for someone else hit the victim has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Julian Martinez, 19, told jurors he didn’t mean to kill Amanda Acosta. He was found guilty of murder Thursday.

During the punishment phase of the trial, the jury handed down the 30-year sentence. Prosecutors were asking for at least 60 years.

Acosta died in March 2016 after Martinez fired a bullet into the car she was riding in. Martinez had gotten into an argument at a party with someone else who was in the vehicle.

Martinez will be eligible for parole after 15 years.
