SAN ANTONIO – Two fundraisers are scheduled on Saturday for San Antonio police Officer Julio Cavazos and his family.

Cavazos was wounded on June 29 during a shootout with a man north of downtown.

Cavazos’ partner, Officer Miguel Moreno, was shot and died at the hospital the next day.

Cavazos attended Moreno’s funeral last Friday and received a standing ovation.

Deer Crossing Saloon, located at FM 1518 in Selma, has scheduled a motorcycle morning "fund" run and silent auction to benefit Cavazos and his family.

Riders have been asked to meet Deer Crossing Saloon at 10 a.m. The ride and drive begins at 11:30 and will go to the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels and back to the saloon.

A donation of $20 is encouraged from each rider. Riders are also encouraged to put an American flag on their cars or motorcycles. All proceeds will be donated to the Cavazos family.

A few hours later, Big Texas Ice House located at 16620 San Pedro Avenue will host a benefit for the Cavazos family from noon to 6 p.m.

Plates will be sold for $10, and there will also be a silent auction.

One of the items on the auction block is a basketball signed by one of the top players from the San Antonio Spurs. All proceeds benefit the Cavazos family.
