Man barricades himself in West Side home after threatening neighbor with gun, knife, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Police say a man in his late 40s has barricaded himself in a home in the 2800 block of Lombrano Street on the city's West Side.

Officer Carlos Ortiz, spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department, said officers were dispatched to the home around 5:25 p.m. for a call of a disturbance with a gun.

Officials said the man threatened his neighbor with a firearm. The man then went back into his home, then came out again and threatened his neighbor with a blade, Ortiz said.

When officers arrived, the man had barricaded himself inside his home. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Negotiators will try to establish communication with the man.

Neighbors said the man has been a problem before. They said he lives at the home with his elderly mother.

"They're endangering a lot of people around here. What if he does have a shotgun and he starts shooting? Innocent people could get killed," Peal Cavazos said.

Ortiz said no one else is inside the home.

None of the surrounding neighbors have been asked to leave their homes, police said. They said those still in their homes should stay away from windows and use caution.

Officers said they are willing to wait however long it takes to get the man out of the home safely.
