SAN ANTONIO – Alamo Heights students are helping Hurricane Harvey victims some 250 miles away.
They’re using their skills and talent to put on a free will benefit concert Tuesday.
Eight grader Jillian Ran plays the euphonium, she’s been practicing extra hard to make a good impression.

“It makes me want to work harder because before I hadn’t been taking it as serious,” she said.

She’s part of the band team that will be performing.
The show will include string, band and choir from Alamo Heights junior high and high school.

The district has been specifically helping Hamshire-Fannett ISD east of Houston near Beaumont. Two of their campuses were heavily damaged by floods, the district has donated some 900 desks already.
Leo Saulmon on percussion said the fact that Harvey affected kids whose classrooms and instruments were damaged or destroyed makes want to try harder.

The students started practicing about a month ago. While it’s a short time to prepare for a concert, they’ve been putting in a lot of practice time to make sure they make a good impression.
“There’s a lot of pressure for this one because we want to do good,” Ran said.
The Alamo Heights High School Auditorium fits 800 people. The concert begins at 7 p.m. it’s a free but donations are encouraged.
